"knight in shining armour" is Neil Young meets Elton John, in my mind. without question those are the two artists that inspired this song more than anyone else. this song is about realizing that your heroes are flawed and that, ultimately, you can NOT rely on other people to take care of you. please, learn to take care of yourself as best you can, and then teach others to do the same. then we can live in a world where, when we do feel a bout of weakness (as does tend to happen from time to time), there will be people around us to help us get back on our feet. yes i recognize that it sounds like i'm contradicting myself. i'm not. sometimes there's nothing better than having someone take care of you when you're down, but you can't always rely on it.
all i'm saying is make yourself as resilient as possible, because you can become stronger than you already are.
