don quixote

"don quixote"... this song is an odd one. it's the first song on the album and the idea behind it is a little strange, which i think is an appropriate introduction to the inner workings of me. i think, like this song, i give off a first impression that is some combination of "odd" and "likeable". i wrote this song because i've often been considered weird, for many, many, many different reasons, but in general i don't think i am very weird. i don't even really think the "odd" things i do are even remotely strange, and i'm fairly convinced that, if you and i had the time, i could sit down and explain to you all of my behaviour in such a way that you and i would agree that i am not crazy (crazy, crazy).

speaking of crazy, i almost cut this song from the album. Darren talked me out of it, and so far it's been most people's favourite song. crazy, huh?

lyrics

i will go anywhere there's trouble on the breeze
i will do anything to set these cities free
i will know everything in every book in every language
i will show everyone that i'm not crazy crazy crazy
chorus:
and they call me don quixote
and they call me "the windmill man"
i can see that the winds are changing
but how can you claim to see the wind?
and i'll ride into town on my courage
my devotion will be my sword
people laugh and call me crazy but i don't mind

i will stand up and fight every battle that i see
i will spend every night finding cures for all disease
i don't care if you think what i say cannot be done
'cause i believe that it can, so the battle's already won

chorus

acoustic chorus (x3):
and they call me don quixote (i will live, i will ride, i will fight, i will die)
and they call me "the windmill man"
i can see that the winds are changing
but how can you claim to see the wind?
end chorus:
and they call me don quixote
and they call me "the windmill man"
i can see that the winds are changing
but how can you claim to see the wind?
and I'll ride into town on my fantasies
my devotion will be my sword
people laugh and call me crazy but i don't mind
said i don't mind
no i don't mind
said i don't mind
